My pictures are of my Beaded Gourds

I cover the entire gourd with beeswax the build up certain areas with the wax then sculpt it into the figures that I will be creating. I then Bead the entire gourd or sometimes ostrich shells from bottom to top with 13/0 beads. These beads are picked up with a pin and then pushed into the wax one bead at a time.

The African Rose took me 2 1/2 years to complete.

Heheh, Susan that would be an impossibility as many break when being applied and others I drop. It takes about an hour to do an area of about a quarter. This one is for sale on my etsy and it has been featured in Bead and Button magazine.

Unbelievable! Extraordinarily detailed. How did you ever come up with the idea for beading gourds?

Not sure where you find 46" gourds...that is REALLY big. We thought we had a big one when we made this fairy house from a gourd.

KMS, that is so cool. I really like the little people abodes.

I think that this will probably be the last of the big ones I make. I hope to finish it by the end of the year.

I will probably make some smaller ones from the little buffalo gourds like this little sea turtle one I made ...»

I also did a few with different scenes for my Daughters for Christmas.

This is where I get the original idea of beads into wax. Huichol Indians made these. Beautiful colors.

I have posted several pics, I hope they won't bore you. Its just a variety of what I do with them.

Thank you all for you interest.

I will post a photo of the last one I completed on a Swordfish Bill and little later after you have had a chance to catch your breath.

    • The design and colors are awesome. However, their's is all one dimensional.
    • This one was done on a carved piece of wood with the same beeswax application
    • Ostrich Egg / Two Iguanna's
    • Bottom of egg with a wooden base attached with wax then beaded

KMS, those are so cute. I love the Judges cave.

In answer to your question about where I find the large gourds, I find some at foothillsfarm.com. They are in Ohio and others I have bought off Ebay. Yep I just look for HUGE BUSHEL GOURDS... and I find 42" gourds. Biggies, huh?

Thank you all so much for all the gracious words of praise. It makes me want to do more. OH No.. I think I will stick to the smaller ones, I have two Ostrich eggs that I may do for commission work.

THank you, I wish that everyone could see this first hand and touch it and pictures don't do it justice. Each bead is as small as a pin head 13/0 if yo know beads and each bead was pushed into the wax by hand one bead at a time.
    • This little fledgling landed on the gourd when I was working on it. I didn't have a bird on the gourd at that time but decided that it was a sign that I was suppose to add a bird. I added one on top of the rhino as birds sit on top of rhinos all the time
    • If you look close, just behind his right ear the bird sits there,

I was featured in the 2007 Feb issue of Bead and Button magazine with a 4 page spread. I was very pleased with that, and I have taught several classes but most folks get frustrated at how slow of a process it is. If you start small you can see the end ahead much faster. For the classes I used small buffalo gourds. They are about the size of a large orange. These are larger then a large pumpkin. heheh ...»

I have had a few displays in the Siletz Indian Reservation Library and the Toledo and Newport libraries. It has also been displayed in two galleries here.

It wasn't for sale then but the African and the Sword fish Bill creations are both for sale now.
