Love the look - looks very, very comfy and I'm ready to curl up and read a book! Also love the carving over the window.

The living room ceiling light...what is it? Did you make it yourself?

@ Maggie D--the ceiling light is part of an antique chandelier. I lined it with vintage lace and hung it from the ceiling using clips from the hardware store. It is a standard bare bulb fixture under it.

Eeeeewwww - just be careful w/the light bulb & fabric. I know I really don't need to caution you but. . . . . Sure wouldn't want to pick up the newspaper and read about a fire in Richmond caused by a ceiling light!!

Thanks, Susan S for the concern! I'm right there with you!!! FYI I've only got a 40 watt bulb in there and there is plenty of room! The fixture is about 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep! Way better than a lampshade! Plus the fabric is polyester, which just melts if it gets too hot.

Phew!!! I knew you'd take care of the details but just the same. It's my prerogative to worry and I exercise it to the fullest!!! That's what I always tell my kids.

You really have some wonderful decorating/accessorizing ideas. Did I read something in your blog (yes, I did go there) about having a shop in Richmond or did I misinterpret something????

I had a booth in The Oak Antique Mall in Petersburg, Va. and used to run the shop, as well, but I've not been there for some time. I have an online shop that is in serious need of revamping! I've got loads of great stuff for it, just not the time to photograph and upload. I'm thinking of putting most of it on consignment or getting together with some antiques dealer friends and having a multi-day antiques/yard-sale.

Oh Wow!! That sounds like fun! Too bad we're not a little closer - I love vintage, antiquey stuff!!! I know, Richmond really isn't THAT far, I'd much rather go south than battle all the maniacs in N.Va!! Potomac Mills is as far as I'll go anymore and don't even like that!!

If you're in the need for some antiquing, I'd definitely make the drive--the prices are 50 to 75% less than NOVA!!! The farther south you go the better the prices are! But I can't blame you--the traffic is horrible!!!

Are there any places in Richmond area that has the old architectural finds - like corbells and just neat wood carvings etc. I love your fireplace surround. I found one at a little place a few years back for about $65 but couldn't talk the other half into it. Have regretted it ever since. There are a a couple of places along Rt. 1 S. (Im in the Massaponax area - ext. 126 if you're at all familiar) Thornburg, Ladysmith and then on further down there are little hole in the wall places but you just never know what you'll find!!

There is a Fabulous place in Petersburg, Sycamore Antiques and Architectural Art... www.sycamoreantiques.net I do their website, so I'm a little partial! Caravatti's in Richmond is also great, but very expensive! My fireplace mantle here was $22.50 at The Oak Antique Mall in Petersburg.
