Need advice on painting brass chandelier

Question

I want to paint this chandelier for use in a bedroom.  I know it is lovely as is, but it was a steal and just what I want size and style wise --but not color.  Brass won't go with my gray color scheme.  I want to do a black/white or gray with a dry brush to bring out the details -- which are wonderful.   Ideas on types of paint (spray vs. chalk or other) and on colors ?  Thanks in advance!

I would use a spray paint for metal. Research the Rustoleum spray paint collection to see if there are the colors that suit your needs.

I agree with Janet Pizaro. Rustoleum has many metal finishes in its line of spray paints, such as Hammered Pewter (gray with flecks of black.) Spray paint is the way to get all of those details painted, IMO. I wouldn't suggest chalk paint for this piece. Good luck.

I painted a light fixture for my bathroom over a year ago that was very similar to the one you have and I used spray paint from Rustoleum. I used one of their metal bronze finishes and it turned out beautifully.

I have spray painted a few brass looking lamps using Rust-oleum. I bought a spray paint comfort grip making it easier to apply the spray paint. After using the grip on a few different projects other than lamps, I would not spray paint without using it. I was able to get a smooth appearance and my index finger wasn't tired. Your colors and finishing choices are endless. Good luck with your project!
