The PVC blade is uniquely balanced giving adequate rigidity, but also flexibility where you need it. When using the Speedskim it glides over the plaster effortlessly leaving the surface extremely flat and nicely closed in.
I first came across this tool when visiting a building site one day, and I observed a team of plasterers using it. After having a discussion with them I could see they were full of praise for this tool
Speedskim significantly reduces the amount of trowel work involved, and in doing so will reduce Plasterers aches and pains.

I would highly recommend the Speedskim to anybody working in the plastering industry, and I will be encouraging students and apprentices coming into the trade to make this one of their first purchases.

  • Jodi, Plastering is the old school method of doing walls. It was used for many years before drywall came into the picture where we simply spackle the spaces between each board. Most of the old homes still have plaster walls. These are often those with the small boards, (lath) nailed with the gaps. A first bonding coat goes on and adheres between each space. Once dry another scratch coat goes on that levels the surface followed by the finish coat I which these tools are designed for. There were also methods of using smaller sections of a drywall type product that was used on the walls to save the time of installing the lath and bonding coat, but the rest of the process remained the same. Plastering is considered a dying art in the US, but still remains strong in many other countries as access, I assume to drywall is difficult to obtain. Many high end contractors still retain companies that do plastering work, while much more expensive then drywall and much more labor intensive, if properly done, the finish of plaster work is much smoother and looks better then most drywall jobs. Also many of the fancy ceiling trims are done using plaster and not wood. As many years ago the tools simply were not available to cut wood into the shapes we have around today.
