We finally tore up the old carpet in our house and got eco-friendly, low VOC carpet that was manufactured using corn!

Very interesting, I didn't even know there was such a thing. I will recommend that to anyone with allergies. -
I was surprised that it existed, too! I have asthma and the low VOC really helped me. We also got an anti-microble pad. I should have also mentioned that we had to have the mold properly remediated prior to placing the carpet. We purchased it through Carpet Exchange, but I believe it is available elsewhere. -

That's really cool. I am fairly "anti-carpet," mostly for environmental reasons, but also because I have seen so many beautiful hardwoods covered by ugly carpet. But it's wonderful to know there is a nice green alternative. -
And Cassi, this project looks like it certainly took more effort than my drainage project you were so impressed with. Thanks for the kind words, but you are clearly the proactive homeowner, looking out for your family. =) -

TaCora, it was Mohawk! Darby C, the corn is used in the fibers and also in some of the processing for the backing. When we went to buy the carpet, the salesperson at Carpet Exchange showed us a cool video on it and I was sold. Steve G, I'm usually anti-carpet as well. The carpet decision was two-fold: I needed a room where people could sit comfortably on the floor and the wood floor underneath was moldy (and the remediation process wasn't pretty), I'm much more impressed with the ...» -
@Cassi - I just found this post and I'm so glad you reviewed it, as we've been seriously thinking of getting this carpet, but held off due to concerns that the "new carpet" smell would be overpowering.
