Removing stain from painted furniture

I had candles on the shelf of a buffet that is painted. This piece was purchased and there may also be a lacquer or other finish on top of the paint. The candles left a stain not wax and I have not been able to remove it. Any ideas on how to remove without having to refinish or damage the furniture.

How do I get paint off a round top trunk which also has alligator skin. I don't worry about the wood part but the alligator I certainly don't want to ruin. Thak you.

It could be the oils from the candle. Try placing 3-4 paper towel over the spot and ironing the towel on medium heat. If the oil/color comes up, replace the towels as they absorb the oil until the paper towels can absorb no more oil/color.
