Hello Douglas, your so right Betty is a foolproof clematis, just give her roots a little shade and she is happy.I don't feed her, in fact I don't feed any of my plants besides using some epsom salt on my roses. I also grow the small flowered clematis named The Duchess of Albany. I seem to be able to grow the small flowered clematis much better than the large flowered ones. Wishing you a great 4th, have fun play safe.
