Debi @ Debi Collinson Interiors on Jun 10, 2016WOW!!! This is a great project! You could decoupage pictures or pages from old books. Numbers and letters would work for the younger ones learning their alphabet and numbers. Or you could decoupage super hero pictures on it. One for girls? One for boys? I would spray paint the legs a fun color that is predominate with what you pick for the top. Can't wait to see the after picturesHelpful Reply

Janet Pizaro on Jun 10, 2016I would make on a learning table with numbers, letters ,shapes and colors for the younger children. For the older children I would paint the top with black board paint so they can sit and draw.Helpful Reply

MN Mom on Jun 10, 2016Love @Debi's decoupage idea! Make a collage of each table top with pages from children's books, photocopies of their favorite movie characters, shapes, colors, flowers, animals, flash cards, game boards, birth dates, names of the cities they reside in, etc. This way you can include each child's name as well. Make it like an "I Spy" table top...keep them hunting for all the different things! Also, this would appeal to all the ages...learning opportunities for the youngest grands and maybe a touch of nostalgia as they age. Remember that cool table Grandma made us with all the stuff on it?!Helpful Reply

Julies1949 on Jun 11, 2016Chalkboard paint sounds cute, but I would save that for a vertical surface. Every time they use the table their forearms or shirtsleeves will be covered with chalk. I would paint it with a magnetic paint so they can get double use from the table.Helpful Reply

Jane on Jun 13, 2016Paint the legs, then nail or brace some peg board on the back of each desk. You can add S hooks to hold plastic containers (Dollar Tree) for crayons, CD's, Earbuds, and many other objects. Another idea is to paint the peg board a color that will add pizzaz their area. One can be orange the other red. If peg board isn't to your liking you can attach a bulletin board to them also and they can pin their art to them.Helpful Reply

KatAych on Jun 13, 2016I would consider decoupaging some of their own artwork to the tops to serve as inspiration! (You can make color copies if you don't want to use originals). Or, if you don't want to decoupage, you could just place them on the tops and screw down a cut piece of plexi - at least that way you could change out the artwork periodically.Helpful Reply
