Looking for suggestions on what type of flooring to put in our house.

We have 2 big dogs and also have the possibility of wet/snow covered feet during the winter months. Any ideas?

You most likely want to go with tile. If you use real hardwood it can scratched by the dogs and damaged by the water. Tile would take the abuse and still look good. Just remember to seal the grout.

Is it a new home or are you redoing existing?

It is an existing home with stained concrete floors. I just want something nicer than the concrete.

Tile will be durable. Try to find something with a little texture, though, so you don't slip with wet shoes.

Snow covered feet? in Carlsbad? You must get back from Julian fast. Tile is the most durable: anything 3/8" thick is meant for floors and can take the punishment. Consider granite tiles, though they might be pricey. I know the dogs go everywhere you go, but don't do the whole house in tile. It can get cold and impersonal.

The flooring is actually for a 2nd home in Colorado. Plenty of snow around there :-)

Hard fire porceline tile will hold up the best. There is tile that resembles hard wood slats and looks great and hold up the best.

Where in Colorado?...one of our beautiful ski towns?

I would also recommend tile, if this floor is unheated installing an electric radiant underlayment will make this tile warm and cozy.

It's in Ouray, small town about 70 miles north of Durango. The floor is heated so I'm thinking tile might be the best way to go. Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I appreciate it.

Nice...Its a better town than most...way more laid back...unlike the Vail and Aspen type places...having a couple of hot springs in the area is pretty cool too. We have visited Orvis hot springs after some great back-country hut trips...

I love Ouray. Can we all come over? - to inspect the flooring, of course.
