HELP...we moved into a brand new bldg....we have fruit flies (I think they are fruit flies) everywhere. I've done the fermenting fruit jar and funnel trap I learned here. But STILL there are hundreds here! how to spray with a enviromentaly friendly method? ANYONE???
ps...we are trying to find the source of the little buggers too.

Chances are you have drain flies. If swarms of tiny flies have suddenly sprung up around your kitchen sink, bathroom sink, or shower, you may have a drain fly infestation. Drain flies live and breed in the organic matter trapped inside moist drains, so getting rid of these pests is usually as simple as removing the gunk inside your pipes. When I get them I set out a dish with apple cider vinegar and dish soap mixed together close to the sink.

Thank you so much...I bet that is where the source lies.....BUT this is a brand new complex....can't be too much gunk in the pipes? my office is affected too. I wonder?

thank you too! mine just came out of nowhere! was told they were drain flies but is there a difference between fruit and drain flies? i just set two traps that I found on various websites. a 64oz soda bottle with vinegar and a bit of dishwashing liquid. Second is a bowl with old fruit, and a bit of balsamic vinegar, covered with Saran wrap. Poke very small holes on wrap. Apparently both traps will attract them and they cannot escape...crossing my fingers!

I have used the old fruit, dish soap and vinegar but just in a small open dish. Caught tons of them. I like the idea of using saran wrap with holes so they can't fly out once they fly in.

Okay so I tried the dish with balsamic vinegar and a rotting lime and covered tightly with saran wrap. Poke very tiny holes so they can enter but not exit. It has worked wonders. And by the way no cleaning products have worked for the past week that I have tried this. The pest control people told me putting bleach down the drains really helps. I have done that in addition to trapping them. I am on my way to being fruit fly free. Good luck!!!
