Get That Ugly Phone Utility Tower Out of My Landscaping!

by Wanda Potter
After spending money and time on landscaping our backyard, we hated seeing the ugly utility tower in it, so my husband got creative.
We had to leave the tower accessible to the phone company if necessary, so my husband decided to make a hollow, wood pedestal that could be slid over the top of the tower.
The wood pedestal also looked odd in the landscaping, so he topped it with a birdhouse.
He added flat rocks around the bottom to anchor the pedestal, yet the can easily be removed if someone needs access to the tower.
He chose to let the wood weather to blend with the fence. Along with flowers, he has also planted climbing vines, but they haven't taken off yet. Eventually, we hope to have vines climbing up to the birdhouse.
