DIY Mid Century Dresser
The best compliment I have gotten on my new DIY dresser was "that looks like it came straight out of the 70s." Why, thank you, sir, that was the point. Guess I made it well:) haha
If you've been following along on the blog, you may remember me talking about the "South Wing Project" where we will be redoing our master bathroom and bedroom. Well, the bathroom will be first, but while I am being indecisive about things for it, I decided to build a few things for the bedroom to pass the time :)
So after I made new nightstands, I wanted a retro/mid century style dresser like this one I saw at West Elm. But the price tag was $999. Umm, no. So I figured out a way to make a similar one myself.

All the details on the build can be found at the link below. First I made the legs as you can see above.
Then I used 2x3s to make the bottom frame part of the dresser.
After the bottom frame part was done, I began working on making the main part of the dresser. I used plywood to build a "box" to house the drawers.
I built six drawers, attached them to the ball bearing slides, and then stained the entire dresser and attached the bottom part to the top from the underside.
The original one that I wanted had brass hardware and had two knobs on each top drawer and long handles on the four bottom drawers. But have you looked at prices for long drawer pulls? I would literally have spent more on the hardware than I did the entire dresser!! I'm cheap. Totally not doing that.
It only took me a month, but I FINALLY LOVED my dresser...and dresser pulls:) The struggle has been real.
What do you think? Does it make you feel like throwing on your bell bottoms and getting out the disco music? HAHA.

I’ve just recently jumped on the MCMD design n love it. You did an outstanding job on your dresser. Love it. I sure hope the prices of MCM go down in price. As you stated pieces are super high including the hardware. I’m still on the hunt for some pieces where the owners aren’t trying to make a fast killing! Lol😊
