hardwood floor splotches

Is it safe to use water on my hardwood floors? They do have polyurethane coating so I think it should be OK.

It's best to use as little water as possible on any hardwood, but cleaning with a little water should be OK.

Splotches of what?....or are these finish / staining problems.

The trick to cleaning a hardwood floor is to use the absolute min of water or "cleaner".
