Use them to dust the house first...
Whenever I have socks that needs to be thrown out, either because they have holes, or are to small for the youngest kid, or I have given up on finding it's match, I simply put my hand in them, dust(or clean by spraying cleaning liquid on a surface first)...
So, when your done, simply pull it inside out when you pull it off your hand, and that way you contain all the dust inside... Then: Bye, bye, sock, thank you for the good times, and the cleaner times to come...
