How To Stencil A DIY Bone Inlay Dresser

We can all agree that bone inlay furniture is gorgeous but the hefty price tag that comes attached to it is not. If you've been daydreaming about owning your own beautiful bone inlay piece of furniture then we have the perfect DIY project for you. Stencils are an easy and inexpensive way to create that designer look you've been lusting after. Today we're sharing a DIY bone inlay mirror that was created using our Indian Inlay Stencil Kit.

We'd like you to introduce Nicole, the creative DIYer behind the blog Dear Homey. Nicole has had a dresser since her childhood. This 20 year old piece of furniture was still functional but had seen better style days. Rather than kick it to the curb, Nicole decided to give it a makeover using the Indian Inlay Stencil Kit. Here was her inspiration:

That bone inlay dresser is gorgeous but also super expensive. Lucky for Nicole, our Indian Inlay Stencil Kit can achieve a similar look for a fraction of the price. Let's walk through the steps for completing this project. Nicole coated the dresser with Zinsser Oil-Based Primer.

Then painted the dresser a soothing gray hue similar to Martha Stewart's Zinc.

Then she was ready for the fun part, stenciling! Nicole used the Indian Inlay Stencil Kit to recreate a bone inlay look on the dresser. She carefully taped the stencil down using blue painter's tape and painted the pattern in white using a stencil brush.

Nicole made sure she brushed off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed.

After each section was painted, she would carefully remove the stencil and reposition so she could finish the design.

Nicole carefully painted the top of the dresser and then added the pattern to the drawer fronts. After the entire dresser was stenciled, she placed pretty white ceramic knobs on the front.
