Cleaning & Organization Flooring

What is the recommended cleaner for real hardwood floors.

Was told Orange Glo and Murphy's shouldn't be an option. We were recommended Bonnie Kime (not sure on spelling), but it isn't available at Costco and isn't on order either. Thanks.

Murphy's Oil on this site is very a popular choice among many people.

We were told not to use it because when the floors are refinished, the Murphy's turns back into oil making the process very difficult.

    Hi Colette,

My wife likes to use Weiman floor cleaner. It's biodegradable, plant derived, about $5 for 27oz. Works for all hard surface flooring. No harsh petrochemicals, ammonia, VOC's or phosphates, safe to use around kids and pets. I don't actually know about the effects when refinishing, but it works well for cleaning, and no residue. Maybe this could be a good alternative for you? I have heard ...»

of Bona hardwood cleaner, it's non-toxic, biodegradable, non-oily etc. But I haven't seen it anywhere but online. Hope this helps!

    Colette,

I have used Bona products and was very happy with the results...they make a cleaner, polish and even an applicator.

I have some pix on here of a home I remodeled. The floors are genuine black walnut. I was very hesitant to use anything on those floors, risking possible damage (the finish on the floors is tung ...»

oil, not polyurethane) It was the supplier& installation contractor that suggested Bona products. Google Bona.com.

Not to be disagreeable Nancy but, water is woods worst enemy.

I also like Bona. It's not cheap, but it's green (I mean eco-friendly, not green-colored) and effective.

Never heard of thee Bonnie Kime brand. I use Murphy's then shine it a bit with a dust mop when dry - it isn't shiny but clean. I keep a spray bottle with a Murphy's Oil Soap mix for quick mess clean-ups.

After cleaning floor with Orange Glo daily cleaner, I use the Orange Glo 4-n-1. It works great. I have used their refinishing product before, but it streaked, so would not recommend it. Several years ago I used Bona. It was good. But I love Orange Glo.
