And I was just muttering yesterday about how dragging my hose had crushed a little zinnia. Neat idea!

My husband is a mechanic or as he puts it, an Automotive Technician. He seems to have acquired several of those things that take the nuts off the wheels. My mind just drew a blank. Happens all the time. Anyway, they also work well for this. Just stick them in the ground and Viola, you have another plant protector from the infamous hose destroyer. He must have had about a dozen of them. Like I say, why buy when we can recycle.
