My $1,200.00 Kitchen Remodel

If you're familiar with the internet at all, you've probably seen my kitchen before. I renovated it April of 2011 on a $1,200.00 budget and posted the progress and results on my website, www.shabbyfrenchcottage.com. It has been viral online since then! It was also featured as a Cover Story in the September 2011 issue of Romantic Homes Magazine!

Ha!!! I don't understand it. My neighborhood, unfortunately was hit exceedingly hard by foreclosures, and we're finally seeing the light of day. I saw a flipped house a block away that took out the wall between the mudroom and dining room and kitchen and dining room--which contains a good sized closet and a built in china hutch, plus about 5 lost square feet, which really opened up the house and added about 100 sqaure feet to the dining room. Not sure where they put the washer dryer ...»
hook-up, but it looks great! They also put double french doors out onto the deck from the dining room. I totally can't afford that, but it really made that house much more livable.

This is exactly how I want my kitchen except I have all black appliances-I love this vintage feel and could possibly handle white shelving but do some black stencil-ing to pulling this together. Your's is gorgeous!! Absolutely lovely.

MY KIDS ALSO GAVE ME DRAWERS ON BOTTOM, WHICH I WAS UNSURE OF, BUT BOY, DO I LOVE THEM NOW--THEY HOLD AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT & MUCH LESS DIGGING TO FIND THINGS! I USE TUPPERWARE ``MODULAR MATES`` IN TOP WHICH ALSO SAVE MEGA SPACE--THOSE I COULD SHOW OFF ON SHELVES!

I love the open cupboards. I would love to have this kitchen with a farm-house sink and one of the old stoves, the one with the little shelf up top.

Love It! how about painting the back of the Hooiser cabinet would give the room a total finished look. I did mine in blue base paint then crackled it over with white, use it in the laundry room to fold towels and tee shirts on. Mine still has the old top, so it is great for laundry room storage

This is really beautiful, and I've often thought about open shelving. But with the amount of dust this house seems to produce I wouldn't dare.
