Front mulch

I gave up using herbicides, and weeding none worked for more than a month, so I burned it too kill the weeds. Dandilions don't burn worth diddly.

Thank you. I hope I'm done with the mulch. will find out in a few weeks. We get so much rain that not much goes totally dormant. I will admit using the weed burner was fun though!:)

Does weed burning work as a permanent solution? That's so interesting, I've never heard of that.

Not on dandilions. I burned one weekend and by the next weekend the dang things were starting to green up again. :( My husband was very diligent with the garden hose so it may not have got hot long enough. That is why I dug all the old mulch out down to the compacted sand underneath. Only time will tell.

I was thinking of taking a torch to my side yard...just a hot mess over there.

Always have somebody on garden hose duty (fire watch) so that nothing gets out of hand. In some municipalities it's illegal to use fire as a method of groundclearing. Also keep a firm eye on where the flame is pointing, you don't want to burn through your own line. That's far more dangerous than cutting through your own extension cord. Keep the flame away from structures and vehicles. My husband and I both have had firewatch training where we work. It does work on moss but I want to give it a week or 2 to see if it comes back.

Where do you get rubber mulch?

I got mine at Walmart in bags. They were $6 a bag but I pick mine up during the spring sale or end of season sale for about 1/2 price. There are those that are apposed to the shredded recycled tire mulch because of the chemicals that can leach out but after 15 years I was tired of weeding this area year round. I have had gravel and bark mulch in there but the seeds germinate any way. Pre-emergents don't work because it doesn't get cold enough for long enough to kill the plants. I have dandylions in places that are over 8" across already.
