A Craigslist Kitchen Redo

6 Materials
We bought a fixer upper and the budget was very tight. So many things about the kitchen had to be redone so we gutted it. That meant new everything. Cabinets, flooring, walls, and even the kitchen sink. To the tune of about $20,000 we decided to DIY and buy used. The total cost was a small fraction of the original estimate.
Broken floor tile, rotted doors, moldy and ruined cabinets, and old appliances were all removed.
Dining end of long & narrow kitchen (Before)
Striped wallpaper felt like a prison.
Pine cabinets and peeling formica (Before)
Not enough cabinet space.
Rusted door painted (Before)
And the walls were not insulated correctly.
So we bought new flooring, insulation, wall coverings, countertop and installed ourselves.

Then shopped for all appliances, cabinets, and doors (front entrance and back sliding door) from Craigslist. The oaks were similar, but didn't match. I couldn't find a hood range cabinet, so I made one from cabinet scraps.
Once all was in place, I finally, painted the walls and cabinets to pull the kitchen together.
The mixed woods and dark kitchen became bright and streamlined.
A lot of diy projects were added to complete the uniformed look.
