What is the best way to clean plastic shower CURTAINS not doors....?

I have asked this question before and keep getting answers for how to clean shower doors!!  I have a shower curtain!!!

Thank u Wanda....I have always washed my curtains this way but this time it doesn't work....same plastic quality too....I even tried using ClR ...to no avail... Think I will try washing it one more time before I replace it!

The towels are required to rub off the water stains. I always put a bunch of vinegar in the wash with it n addition to reg laundry soap

Hi Cynthia! I wanted to ask you if you have any ventilation in your bathroom? We have a bathroom in our basement and the window is sealed shut and there is no vent so the plastic curtain gets all moldy if I don't spray it with 100% bleach after every use.This is a very old house with no insulation and no A//C. Thank God for the ceiling fan or else you would sweat to death after you get out of the shower. We plan to redo this bathroom in the near future.We already redid the other bathroom and I am loving that bathroom at the moment!My mom use to soak her plastic shower curtain in the bathtub with some bleach and then rinse it off and hang it right back up.I have to spray the bottom of the bathtub mat about once a week with 100% bleach. I have a hard time keeping the sprayer working with 100% bleach because the spring in the sprayer rusts and then it won't work anymore.The fella at the dollar store recommended that I buy a bottle of cleaner with bleach in it and then add some more bleach to it and so far so good!Best of luck to you with your shower curtain!

If it's white and you use bleach in washer with a couple of towel like Wands suggested. I also let it soak in washer.

Logan-Oakes: There is no fan in the bathroom but window is open most of the time...except on cold days in winter...I do not have a mold/mildew problem...be careful with all that bleach, very toxic...probably just as bad for you as the mold and mildew!!

I simply wipe my shower curtain down with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser while hanging....works great and I simply rinse it after the mold has washed off.

Thank you everyone for all the answers to my question on shower curtain cleaning. I neglected to mention I have to use a clear plastic shower curtain as the shower area is dark so material curtain is out of the question.  I will endeavour to try all of your suggestions!

Hope you have tried to wash with only 1-2 towels. Try using Borax instead or laundry detergent and white vinegar. If you can stop the cycle midway and let the curtain soak a while in the vinegar solution. Also add vinegar to the rinse water. Promise the odor does go away. As for the mildew problem urge you 1. remove caulk. clean caulked area with alcohol (to remove residue) well with white vinegar, let dry and recaulk with mold resident caulk - plan on not using shower or tub for 48 hrs to make sure it really dries. 2. If you have tiles, check the grout it may need to be sealed. I like using a sealer that had color in it. Lot of work but worth it. 3. Wash walls with vinegar solution, let dry and prime your walls with Zinsser mold killing primer, paint walls with mold resident paint. Create a habit of cleaning with vinegar and baking soda. Had similar problems in a rental and this really helped.

Thumbs up to Carmen, I was going to say much the same but I washed mine regularly and did not have mold on my clear plastic shower curtain but I did use 1/2 cup of vinegar to a 3/4 water level in a over sized agitator washer to the rinse cycle. I hung it wet and towel dried it by hand to prevent spotting.

think we all agree the washing machine. Use vinegar for hard water add bakingsoda with vinegar for soap scum. If its mold add bleach. If all fails go to the dollar store and replace with a cheap one. Smiles N Blessings
