Best way to recover my parsons chairs?

I want to cover my dining room chairs. They are parsons chairs. Would it be better to hire someone to recover them or should I try to make covers for them?

I'm not into upholstering larger pieces, but I definitely would try a parsons chair. I would imagine that it would cost more to hire someone then replace them with new ones, You could remove the fabric from one chair (the one in the worst shape), and use it as a pattern. If you are successful continue with the other ones. I have this exact chair and I taped black electrical tape on it with a design that looked like it belonged!  Otherwise, I would take current cover off and make a pattern for the new fabric.

I would get a commercial pattern from a fabric store and make slipcovers for them. They can be washed if you don't make then skin tight and wash/rinse in cold water. No dryer. The heat is what shrinks the fabric. Conversely, you could buy an extra yd of fabric, wash it in hot water, rinse in cold & throw in the dryer to pre-shrink it.

Ikea also has a cost effective options. Or as suggested make your own, these are really not difficult to make. You can use newspaper or something similar to make the pattern pieces and cut out the fabric of your choice. They are very simple to make and you can then personalise the cover to suit. I made a set with wide ties  which I sewed to the sides to make a bow and they got lots of compliments.  Alternatively if you don't want to make full covers, you can simply make a tabbard to cover from back to front with ties to the side depends on the look you want. Good luck with your project.

Why not just try one first.  Use old material and practice till you get it right.  Those chairs look wonderful in slipcovers but reupholstering them isn't hard either, especially if they come apart.  Good luck.

I think they're really easy. First, go to u tube and search out upholstery vids. Then follow one with an old sheet and a good electric stapler. I think you could get  great result with a little practice.

I was staging my hose to sell it, so I put pillow cases over the backs and cut single sheet to make skirts, attached with double stick tape to the bottom. This got us through the staging and photography for the sale. Not durable or long lasting, but I would cover them myself if I was keeping them.
