Doing a Decorative Pattern on My Dining Room Ceiling

by Linda Leyble
I worked on my dining room a few years back and was pretty happy with it for while, but then I felt it needed some extra bling. I decided hat I wanted to go for broke and add a beautiful. large decorative pattern to the ceiling. I used a Melanie Royals' Modello - a one time use stencil - to help me to do this more easily. First I added the background layer and when that was dry, I added the scrolling pattern around it in mostly gold. It took a leap of faith to do this - but I was so happy with the outcome. It really adds intimacy and drama to the room. You can see the step-by-step on my blog link.
After: Here is the result!
Before - it was nice but needed something extra!
Here's the first part of the stencil up on the wall and brown metallic plaster applied.
After the plaster is dried you put the next parts of the stencil up - the scrolls.
After - the ceiling completes the room!
