Any coffee grounds will work. It's all about acidity.

Yep! It does work. I put on the soil around my Hydrangeas also.

Yes- it will help to change the color of hydrangeas. It's the acid in the soil that determines the color.

Also good for berry bushes and blue berries. Anything that is acid loving will benefit from coffee grounds.

Coffee grounds are a fabulous fertilizer! I'm not sure what does it--but I'm sure a healthy dose of caffeine is to flowers as is is to us in the morning! Speaking of which, there is now shampoo with caffeine.

I also make coffee soap (cold processed). Coffee is all the rage in skin care these days. :) But for plants- it really is about the acid. It's good to toss into the compost pile- but for direct application to plants make sure the plants thrive in acidic soil before you apply the coffee grounds. :)

Tea bags are also great for flowers....but I don't put either directly on the flowers, the coffee grounds in particular seem to draw nats or some kind of insect....I compost everything and then use the compost....

Roses like Bananas too....they'll almost always bloom a week or so after you feed them a banana peel...Just dig a hole out from the roots a little ways and bury the peel so it doesn't draw flies and knats!

I use cold leftover coffee (black only- no cream) or plain tea on my indoor plants & they grow beautiful.

About Banana peels and roses, I save them up in the freezer....no knats that way or knat eggs..or are they live breeders...in any case, when I am in the mood usually big time in the Spring after I have stopped salivating over my tulips....I put these banana peels in the blender...fill up with hot water, add 1'2 cup of epsom salts and 1/2 of milk powder if around, if not...just add a cup of milk......so why??? potassium from the peels, magnesium from the epsom salts - and calcium from the powdered milk, or wet milk....blend - and with your tulip bulb planter make a rough circle of holes around your favourite rose ...and drop in the mixture.....cover with a thin layer of triple mix...the blooms will astound you in size and depth of colour........I had two identical miniture roses that I experimented with using this method.....after a month, the one I applied the mixture to...no longer was a miniture....the other one remained the same...small, sad, and begged me for that super picker upper...now if you want miniture roses in a rockery, that is okay, especially if the rocks are real limestone....they will thrive from the mineral rainwater that falls to the roots from the limestone....but if you are like me...buy a miniture rose on the cheap, don't have to dig a great big heck of a hole....but with failing eyesight I do like to actually see the colour....most minitures give you a bloom the size of a quarter...I like them somewhat larger...course minitures do not have the strongest stems in the world to handle a large bloom full of dew etc...but the calcium/magnesium/potassium combo takes care of that...BTW...that same combo of minerals is also good "fresh" for us...not days apart...but at one sitting..I have a bowl of sliced bananas, covered in milk, and down a pure magnesium pill...the larger the better...the ratio should be magnesium 2, calcium or even steven....when life coaches tell us we are really all one...little did they conceive that when it comes to the stuff we are made of...it is so true.. that is why we eat plants and animals and fish...we are comprised of the same stuff....second BTW, magnesium keeps one's muscles relaxed and supple...every gardener wants that for sure....happy gardening all....Roz
