I have heard these called spider lilies and fireworks Lillys does anyone know what these really are

I don't know what they're called but they sure are pretty! I love planting unusual looking plants in my yard.

I live in NZ and have always known them as Nerines pronounced ner eye ne not nerine to rhyme with citrine.

  They look similar but Nerines are a relative of the Lycoris.

  Hi Benna, call the pink ones Naked Ladies I think, but these more delicate bright pink white or red ones are Nerines.

The botanical name is Lycoris radiata, There's several other varieties. My granny called them Surprise Lilies.

Do they bloom only once or do they rebloom?

Spider lilies bloom in spring and shoot up a stalk with brilliant Coral, pink or red flowers. No leaves to find. Can be divided after blooming. Tiny bulbs so be careful.

We always called them "Naked Ladies" ( Spider Lilies).

They are Spider Lilies and grow from a bulb. They put out green spear-like leaves after blooming. Like other blooming bulbs leave the leaves they are how bulbs prepare for next season. They multiply each year and should be dug up and separated every five (5) years. I have some bulbs from my mother's gardens. She died 3 years ago at 96 so they are very special to me. Hope this helps you.
