The desk in my office needs an upgrade

William on Jun 27, 2016Remove the drawer, and check underneath if there is a way the desk is connected to the cabinet. Most are connected with cam bolts. If they are, you can use a screwdriver to turn the cams and the desk should separate from the cabinet. Laying the desk on its back will make it easier. You can decide if you want to add an extension to the desktop or new top. To put it all together, remove the cam bolts, screw pieces of 1x2's where the desktop mounts to the cabinet and screw the desktop underneath to the 1x2's.Helpful Reply

Jane on Jun 27, 2016Knock the curvy edge off tap the hutch off, add a long piece of painted wood and renail the hutch back to it's original postion. No drawers lost.Helpful Reply

Polly Zieper on Jun 27, 2016I'd be afraid to cut it. I'd look for some sort of hutch or small shelves to sit on top.Helpful Reply

Buster Evans on Jun 28, 2016well you could find a table the same height as the desk that you could slide in beside the desk and make it an L shape component unit... Im sure there are some narrow tables at thrift stores maybe 18" wide by 2 - 3 feet long the scrolled edge could stay and you could add those plastic drawer sets that walmart sells between the scroll part and the wall... you can turn the desk around against the wall to the left and the table would be against the wall where the desk is now... all could be painted to match the desk.Helpful Reply

Polly Zieper on Jun 28, 2016I've seen some 2-shelf units at Target or home depot that are meant for shoes, on the bottom of a closet, but I don't see why you couldn't use them on top of a desk. You'd just have to paint them to match.Helpful Reply
