Mosaic applied to top of purchased stepping stone

I want to know if it is possible to make a mosaic design with pieces of used swimming pool tiles on top of a purchased stepping stone. What cement/grout would I use? How can I make them durable for walking on? Will the medium adhere to the stepping stone?

Yes you can do tile on top of a stepping stone. You're going to need multi-purpose thin-set and I would go with a grout that has additives in it already to help protect it being outdoors. Wherever you go to buy your supplies the salesperson will be able to point you in the right direction. I would scrub the stepping stone and clean it really good get any dust or dirt off of it and then mix your thinset set your tile let it dry till the next day and then grout it. Make sure you follow the directions on the material. I installed tile with my husband for 20 years you can stick tile to just about anything nowadays

I did this one probably 15 years ago it needs a good cleaning right now but it's still intact. Again just make sure you get multi-purpose or high-strength thin set mortar.
