Craig's List Antique Walnut Bed Revival

by White Oak Studio Designs
I found this gorgeous walnut bed frame on Craig’s list for afriend. It was listed at just $75.00.
I tried to talk her into letting me paint it but that was ano go. (Can you imagine?) The wood wasin really good shape so I gave it a good cleaning and did a bit of restoration onthe finish.
My husband first glued the side that was cracked. Then I helped her out by refinishing herantique headboard and footboard using Howard’s Restore-a-Finish and Howard’sWax and Conditioner. Isn’t that walnut grain beautiful? Didn’t it turn out well? Can you believe she only ended up paying $50.00 for this head and footboard (no metal frameor mattress.) Sometimes it is for the best to restore instead of paint.
Now that is what I call a real Craig’s List score!

Becky, Actually I DID want to paint this bed as that is what I do. But the clients needs do come first. And my friend, who is 72, doesn't care for painted furniture. This is typical in conservative Michigan where older folks think everything should be stained and polyurathaned!! Sigh.... Thanks Becky!! I do know you paint things, but I through you were joking because of this comment: "Sometimes it is for the best to restore instead of paint." I'm not near as old as your client, but way more often than not, I chose to refinish to it's natural glory. :^) I'm obsessive about wood grain. Not that this style of bed wouldn't look lovely painted and antiqued to bring out the details, not distressed as I hardly ever like that, but knowing what would be covered up I couldn't do it even if paid double my regular fee. Not even if they offered me a lifetime of Swiss Dark Chocolate! And believe me that would be like offering a physicist a trip to the beginning of earth where all the answers of the universe could be found.
