How to Paint Furniture Without Stripping First

A common thing I hear from people who want to paint their furniture, but are intimidated by the process is that they are overwhelmed by the idea that a piece of furniture needs to be stripped before being painted. This is a common misconception about painting furniture, that a piece needs to be fully stripped before being painted. Rarely do you need to remove the first paint job before painting it again. But, even if you do need to remove the original paint, there are easy ways to do it.

When Does Paint Need to Be Removed First? The only time I would recommend stripping a piece of furniture before painting, is if the current paint job is not adhering well. If the current paint is peeling or chipping off then it’s no longer adhering well to the piece and it wouldn’t be smart to paint over that, you’ll just have the same problem with the new paint job.
