What Plants NOT to Plant for Bees

We all see many lists of plants that are bee friendly. We breed bees so have lots of experience with them and I've found a few plants that they rarely bother to visit. If you are wanting to attract bees, best to avoid these flowers.

Daffodiles. The entire family is passed by even though early spring flowers may be few.
Primrose in all their colours and forms are another spring flower snubbed by the bees.
Iris of all kinds. Just not the right shape for the bees.

    @Sensible Gardening and Living I don't know what part of Canada you are in but the USDA shows the spotted bee balm to be native there in Canada. You may want to give it a try:)
  • Thanks Jan, I've never seen it around here but I'll look into it. I'm in the west and it could be an eastern plant:)
