Pallet Wood Farmhouse Dining Table

Honky Nut Hill
by Honky Nut Hill
I up-cycled my hardwood table to a farmhouse style. It took approx 4 pallets to transform the top. My table had a routed edge so I turned the top upside down so I could have a complete flat top. I just laid all the boards on top and screwed down at random lengths and then applied the border timber. It took about 4 hours and that included the time to take pallets apart. I'm going to paint the bottom half white along with the chairs and then distress the finish. The top still needs a sand back and a wax to finish off...the picture is of the raw top only. I especially love all the nail marks in the timber. when I have completed I shall post the finished product for you as well.
before (top was slightly marked from cups, kids and didn't look very nice due to age)
after (still needs sanding and waxing)
legs painted white ready for a distressed finish..next is the chairs. (someone is proud of his mummy ) :)
top sanded lightly and waxed using Gilly Stevensons dark tinted wax.
complete!! I was thinking of ditching the chairs and making benches but then I thought I should just give it a shot to paint them and now Im so glad I did!
I used coffee bean bags..the more writing on them the better..I have left some plain as well.
distressed finish....lightly rubbed back using 80 grit sandpaper by hand.
Im so happy with how it turned out and it didn't cost me a cent!

I have materials for a wonderful table base, but I have been trying to decide what I wanted to do for the top. I think this may be it! Thanks for sharing!
