Back Porch Transition

Our back porch has a northern exposure and is very dark. With downsizing, the futon had nowhere to go... so it was placed on the back porch. Being a dark wood didn't help lighten the area, so I painted it. Wanting a nautical theme, I selected a light teal blue. First, I cleaned the wood. Second, I purchased a primer/paint and had Home Depot add the blue pigment. After this dried, I added some white outdoor paint thinned with some water. I painted and immediately wiped using my hand spread wide (like a fan) inside a paper towel to get the lines you see in the pictures. One paper towel per swipe. I ordered a new futon cover plus two pillows in a whimsical ocean/fish look. I then painted my husbands old sea chest and a yard sale table the same way. We have a ceiling fan which hopefully will go in soon. Next to address is the rug (ugly!!!!)..... any suggestions?

Becky E on Jul 14, 2013I found this: http://www.addicted2decorating.com/outdoor-rug-with-painted-stripes.html to give you an idea but I don't think you need that many stripes or colors. BTW, when I looked at each of your pics, they're a little blurry and I can't see the details of your pattern very well. Do you have another pic?
