Since our business is herbs, we have pretty much tried all of the drying methods out there. And we have found the simplest way is the best. You can go to my blog post for more details. I also go through some of the traditional methods of drying and explain my opinions on each of them. But, really, it is so simple and "no cost".
Harvest your herbs
Store your dried herbs in an airtight container and label. you are done!

I hang my herbs with clothes hangers and clothes pins and put them on my back porch during hot, dry summers. Also have a fan to circulate the air. Works great after they are dry, i crush them and put in freezer bags in the freezer for future use.
