I wanted to make a flag for July 4th, but I wanted something different. I gathered a bunch of old chair parts that had been left in the barn when we bought our house. I scrubbed and cleaned them up and then started thinking.
Old chair parts
I scrubbed all the parts w/ hot soapy water and left them in the sun to dry. Then I sanded and scrubbed them to remove old finish and smooth out rough edges. Some pieces had nails still in them, so they were removed. I then picked through the spindles and decided which ones I would use. I picked another chair part in order to be the top that the flag would hang from. I used Unicorn Spit and painted them in a flag pattern.
Spindles drying
Once the spindles were stained I used a cut out of a star and randomly placed a stars around the blue sections. I then sprayed the spindles w/ poly to seal. Hooks were screwed into the top of each spindle. The other piece was stained using brown, gray, and some blue Unicorn Spit and then spray poly was added. Screw eyes were placed in the bottom of the hanging piece.
I used some burlap ribbon to make a hanger and my flag was complete. Unique and fun!
