Faux shiplap inside the home

Question

Since shiplap is quite expensive, can anyone give me an idea what can be used in place of it to give the walls the same look.

Lath strips are inexpensive.  Just space evenly across the wall.  If you are doing wainscot you will need trim across the top.  Habitat for Humanity has leftover building supplies that they sell in a store for that purpose or you may have a salvage center for building supplies in your area that you can get the trim from or the shiplath.  Another option is to check your area for remodelers who may donate the goods to you are allow you to take it out of a home they are working on.  You could also advertise in paper or Craigslist in your area that you are willing to dismantle for the salvage rights.  you could also buy sheets of unfinished veneer/thin plywood and have builder supply store cut it in strips for you.  they do it for free.  My sister wanted bricks to pave her driveway with so she drove around looking for remodel and building sites and tear downs.  It took about 3 years but she got her brick driveway for free!

I was impressed with the one here on Hometalk where they painted the wall the color they wanted and drew lines on the wall with pencil...it looked just like shiplap.  Plus, you'd get to see if you actually like it before you spend the money for the wood.

I love ship lap! We used stuff from Lowes that we cut into 6' strips. It isn't wood but after it is paint white, no one knows but you:) so pretty
