How to Weed Less in Your Raised Beds
by

Besides just hating to weed, now I can't always bend over to weed, so I thought I'd try a new method of growing veggies in our raised beds this year - just throw the seeds wherever, and dense enough so that anything that does come up should be edible. Did it work out?

Catherine Smith on Jul 19, 2013Great idea and this method works very well for non~enclosed raised beds. We use a similar method by overseeing section of our rows. We. Use raised beds by adding additional soil to our 3ffoot wide beds. They're about 20 foot long, I just mark off a section with a hoe and overseed that area with whatever we want to grow. It also allows me the option of inter planting companion plants and flowers exactly where they can do the most good. The hard part at least at first is thinning the overseed area. But with a bit of teeth gritting, an iron toothed rake makes short work of that. Many of thined seedlings we use salads and soups, our Boakshi buckets and the big compost piles. We never lack for plenty of safe organic materials for composting. We also use builders straw as mulch,so there are few weeds to contend with. The seedlings cone so quickly and so thick most of weed seeds are smother out.
