Something Growing on Blades of Grass, in Patches.

Can someone tell me what this is growing on my grass? I was just out filling the bird feeders and noticed this in the grass as I was walking back up to the house. Is this a fungus of some type, eggs of something, what should I do?

It is hard to tell from the picture but I would make up a dish soap solution and spray it. At first I thought that you had some weird grasses growing as I did from my feeder. And what it was was the dropped seeds. But that looks like some type of aphid or something, I would definitely spray.

Thanks Bonnie, I actually learned it is slime mold! Harmless, evidently, but it sure is ugly! No treatment is necessary, it turns out, just a good forceful spray of water, and Poof! Gone!! Thanks everyone for your help!

Oh wow! I never even noticed the pods til I read someone's comment on it! Also, I believe my English Ivy was a bit darker with lighter veins running through the leaves!

I believe it might be a fungus called smut. You will need to take a sample to your local nursery to ge the right product to get rid of it.

I can't begin to guess what that is growing on your lawn, but if it were up to me, I'd keep the kids out of it until you find out what it is.
