DIY Creating Patina on New Wood

I had some old oak balusters laying around and wanted to use them in a baluster table.
After building and sanding the new table it was time to try and match the look of the old oak balusters.
Because the top, stretcher and bases were hickory and hard pine, I chose to use milk paint to stain them to match. Hickory is a very dense hardwood that can be difficult to stain. Using a water/casein based milk paint as a stain is not only safer, but makes the job a little easier.
I used Pitch Black first to define the edges to mimic the aged look on the old balusters.
After a few more coats of milk paint and some Daddy Van's orange oil wax, it was finished.
Now the new matches the old.
