Why We Bought a House We Did Not Want

This house had been on the market for years, we didn't even want to look at it at first, but in the end we ended up buying a house we didn't originally want.
On Thursday Roger & I closed on our first house!

***Cue the majorly excited squeals***

I have been thinking about this post for months now. As many of you may know our house hunting mission was an adventure, if not at times a flat out nightmare.

You can read about our house hunting adventure by clicking here.
This is a mini list of what we wanted in a house:

New construction or new house that was only a few years old that needed minimal changes (paint &/or granite in the kitchen).

In north Georgia or just right over the border into TN. We were excited to be moving back, but weren’t quite ready to settle down right in our hometown. Which is why I wrote this post about my Fears of Moving Home.

Less than $300k.

Main floor office, spare room, or den that I can use as an office.

Yard with lots of grass to mow. (Roger grew up on 10 acres of field, he likes lots of outdoor space)

This is what we found:

A house that was built before either of us were born, it even had a rotary wall phone! (And yes I am old enough to remember those as a kid, although to be fair I didn’t use them because they were amongst the relics which we were not allowed to play with as kids.)

In southeast Tennessee & in the heart of our hometown.

More than $300k.

No immediate office space.

No grass, just rocks… Lots of Rocks.
Over the next hours & days, we started to fall in love with a house we did not want initially.

We had a lot to think & pray about & we were eager to discuss the possibilities. We decided we were going to make an offer by the end of the weekend on one of the two houses we were interested in owning.

In the end we chose to buy a house we did not want because we could see past what it is now & instead see the potential of what it can become in the near future.

We have already begun to update & renovate our new home this week & I can't wait to share all of our updates with you in the coming weeks & months!

ps. I’ll soon be sharing a house tour blog post with lots of pictures,

along with why this house is lovingly named “A Little Piece of Heaven.”

Thanks! It's been a bit crazy, our stove/oven died during it's 3rd use... Feels like we are in the movie"The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks!

We did the same with a home purchase. We had to remodel every room. It took ten years to complete and looked awesome! Then we moved- but, we made four times the purchase price! We loved that home!!

Wow!! That is amazing & so incredibly encouraging! We are almost finished with the biggest things in this stage of our renovations (new floors on the main floor, completely new kitchen, master bath, half bath, laundry, removed a couple of walls, ect) so it's good to know that hard work can literally pay off! Thanks for sharing!!
