Repurposed Kitchen Cabinet Door Covers Ugly Fuse Box

by Suzanne
I am positive that I am not the only one that has a fuse box they want to hide. We recently remodeled our kitchen and saved the old doors. I decided to use one of them to cover the fuse box.
Space Before
See the fuse box? I painted it the same color as the wall to disguise it, but it still shows. One of the cabinet doors just happened to be slightly larger than the fuse box. I had been looking at message centers online and had been wanting one.
Getting Started
We took off the old trim then sanded the old paint and stain off. We replaced the old trim and stainted it red mahogany. We decided to do half chalkboard and half corkboard. I purchased spray chalkboard paint and a roll of cork with adhesive backing at the Home Depot.
Half Way There
I painted 4 coats of the chalkboard paint on one half. We used a razor blade to cut the corkboard to fit the other half.
She Loves It!
We used a cabinet door pull for the chalk holder. We used a satin nickel cup pull turned upside down and attached it to the bottom.
Finished Project!
Perfect message board for this space! Dresses up the space and is useful next to the side entry.

Did you take off the door to the fuse box? Reason I ask is because in the photo this looks flush with the wall. Lovely idea, tho.

What did you use to hang it? I have a panel that I would like to hide but was concerned because of the electrical wires in the panel.
