Jewelry Cabinet Makeover

I found this old, dated jewelry box at a thrift store. The 70's yellow velvet interior was stained and gross. The wood was scratched up, dinged and dented and the red and gold paint on the doors was tacky, not to mention chipped and faded. The shape was right though so a makeover would do wonders for this old box.
I loved the size, and shape of this old jewelry cabinet, but it needed some help, and updating, and yes, paint.
I started by stripping out all of the old, dirty yellow velvet lining. I sanded off the glue residue, and cleaned out the box well. It was gross after years of neglect.
I painted the box with two shades of gray, and added pretty new fabric lining that matched my paint inside where I had torn out the old yellow velvet.
I love how it turned out!
I post in greater detail about the fun new texture on the acrylic doors on my blog, but I think it's much better than the old chipped and faded red and gold design they had before!
Isn't it so pretty now? This was my first jewelry box makeover, and I think I'm hooked. It was so fun to do and now I love it! Jewelry boxes are a dime a dozen in just about every thrift store I've ever been in. They don't have to be outdated and ugly though, it was so easy to bring it up to date and make it pretty again.

It came out just lovely! My granddaughter has a similar one that she rarely uses and I repaired on numerous occasions. You got my creative juices flowing.
