The repairs are done, but what kind of paint should I use to cover up the stains?

  • First do a coat of stain sealer. These products can be found in any store that sells paint (and is usually in the same aisle row). I suggest at leats 2 seperate coats of the sealer. For your final/finished coat, use a semi-gloss type paint. It has better water/stain resistance than flat paint does.

Howard, I would use "Kilz" primer first and then a quality acrylic enamel. Make sure to mask off the seashell deco at the top of the wallpaper with blue tape. (it won't rip the detail off when removing it in a timely manner)

I used Gilldens ceiling paint and it did a great job, it did take two coats.

I use a product called B-I-N. It is a white pigmented shellac. It takes denatured alcohol for clean-up, but you can use disposable brushes and rollers. Wear gloves, keep the windows open. Then use your favorite semi-gloss acrylic enamel. Remove the ceiling air register first. Cut the paint around it before you take it off so it won't rip the paper of the drywall.
