Years of soap scum buildup from the previous owner

Question

Bathroom has years of soap scum build up in the tub and on the glass shower doors, I have tried everything. Can anyone help?

Bar Keepers Friend and a Scotchbrite pad worked for me. I have a fiberglass tub and it did not scratch it.

My favorite number for cleaning, ZERO. It is this amazing stuff. You spray it on and it dissolves it. It was developed for cement trucks. You can even touch it. I even spray it on, wait for the scum to ooze down the doors, and take a shower while I am rinsing it off. I know, CRAZY good!

Pamela: I use 1 part vinegar, and 1 part Dawn dish washing detergent . Heat vinegar in microwave to get it hot,then mix with the Dawn in a spray bottle. If yours doors are really bad spray them down and let it set a while. You may have to do this a couple of times to get all the soap scum off. But this stuff really works. Hope this helps

Vinigar ! People Vinigar is the new tool for everthing. On 100 degree days water and vinigar wipe cools the body down . Cleans soap scum off of fiberglass tubs sinks and cleans pot and pans. when your lost on how to clean somthing try vinigar . It cleans tolites ! sofens clothes . Its all natural ! My first line of defence is none toxic all natural vinigar !

I have tried bar tenders friend and rain something wndow cleaners nothing workd on my glassshower doo. Then my son told me about Clear Shower. Wal Mart is the cheapest. I buy the big bottle refill almost half the price after you get the spray bottle  He uses it on his shower curtain. spray on after showering and leave Curtain never molds or stains. He told me I could do the same with the glass. It works but Iike to squeege it afterwards I get one at Wal Mart in bathe dept. White with a suctionn cup , Love it

After you get it clean, use good car wax on the doors and on the sides of the tub and the fixtures. Don't use it on the bottom of the tub or shower floor. Rub it on then wipe off good. You won't have to worry about cleaning anything but the bottom of the tub for at least 6 months. 
I used to do this when I cleaned houses professionally. The clients were very happy.

Miracle bathroom cleaner: here's the recipe: It cleans anything -- just spray, let it sit and walk away, come back in about 5 minutes, wipe off with microfibre cloth -- haven't found anything that works better -- cleans jewelry, cleans scum around sinks and faucets, It's a miracle: Mix in a large bowl and let settle, it will foam a ton -- 1 Professional spray bottle (worth the extra $1); 8 oz. distilled white vinegar; 4 oz. lemon juice, 2 oz. liquid soap (I use Dawn original), 2 tsp. baking soda, 10 oz water -- mix all together, let settle, put in bottle, squeeze out suds gently, and go make your bathroom and anything else sparkle.

I've tried everything under the sun! The best and safest thing that worked for me was using steel wool #0000 (super fine) on it. This will not scratch the glass or ceramic tile, but I wouldn't use it on any fiberglass tubs.  Best of luck - that stuff is hard to remove!!

Friend moved into house where tiles around tub looked like they had never been cleaned. Like Jennifer used steel wool - but in a wetted down SOS pad where you get some soap for lubricant. (Use this method to clean build-up of mineral deposits on my storm windows, too.) Rinsed them off well. Looked like new. Sprayed afterward with Windex and wiped again for a nice smell.

If Brookstones still makes their soap scum remover try that. I used it years ago when my kids were young. It also worked great on their bath tub toys. If you can't find that try a paste made with vinegar and baking soda. Spread it around and let it set for a while before removing.
