Decks & Patios Outdoor Living Pools & Spas

Any suggestions of types of companies, or specific companies who would seal a concrete pool deck?

I'm mostly interested in improving the aesthetics of my deck, which is looking dark and dingy. I started pressure washing it, but it looks too white, so I was thinking of having it sealed with a colored sealer. Any thoughts?

Dave, be cautious with just having a colored sealer or stain applied. Innadequate prep and many products will result in a coating that will peel or chip, not to mention be very slippery. The are many options for a great looking coating that will hold up and be safe.

Sealing conc can be tricky but not impossible for a competent diy'er. 1st is prep - pressure washing ( 3,500psi - 3gpm min - turbo nozzle ) should be 1st followed by a good 'pickling' ( acid wash & neutralization ) then a final rinse. Choice of sealer is important - you want a penetrating product NOT a surface sealer. If you pick solvent-based sealers, let dry o'nite. If wtr-based sealer, that can be done damp but NOT the condition known as 'surface-saturated dry'. We apply it w/18" ...»
3/4" nap rollers to viton-fitted sprayers ( electric &/or manual pump ). Always work from a wet edge to minimize roller marks.

Never expect an uniform final color unless you're using a coating. No 2 loads of conc are the same color so anything transparent on its surface will only be the same. If you're careful, you can do this. If you aren't, you'll probably live w/it whereas if a pro screwed it up like you, you'll scream just like the rest of us do ;-)

    Good luck !
