Kitchen window treatment

I am not sure of what to do to this window as I have to keep the blinds for privacy. It just looks incomplete and would like to add something to them. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

try a window film. home depot and Lowes both carry them. Wayfair has some very nice ones also with more variety. they are easy to apply.

You could also turn it into a roman shade, this is my new favorite window covering and you can easily make it by removing all but a few slats and cutting fabric a few inches longer on each end and the gluing it to the top and bottom and the remaining slats. I've seen tutorials on it and they look great

I have 3 windows like this. I made valences in a drapery fabric which dressed the area nicely and the windows finally looked dressed!

Sheers over the blinds....In the daytime, you could raise the blinds and let in filtered sunlight and no one can see in. Just be sure and lower the shades in the evening when you have the lights on.

I see this window/wall as an easy fix...you simply leave your blinds for privacy ...get a long window rod..metal or wood..but get one that extends beyond the blinds almost to the wall...use a finial if you wish...and hang this rod far up above the top of the blinds/window. Get two panels in a longer length than 84" you will have to measure your desired panel height to see how long you want the panels...they could end at the floor or they could be a little longer and pool on the floor for a classier look up to you..then place most of the panel on the wall section with just a small section of the blinds covered...so you will have visually widened the room with the panels covering the end walls and have visually heightend the room with the rod up near the ceiling...hope this makes sense to you with my explantion!! I have done this in two of my bedrooms , the master bedroom rods are up near the ceiling and placed to the far walls of each of my windows on both sides of the bed...gives a dramatic touch to the room....this is of course only one idea that I think would work in what appears to be a kitchen or dining room area as well! Good Luck!!

I have had a similar issue at a prior home. I went the route Jan noted. Unfortunately I don't have any images but would suggest this site for visual ideas. I've used them in the past and get their catalog - but they have a pretty nice gallery online. http://www.smithandnoble.com/gallery?roomType=all&product=all&decorStyle=all#!

Use a valance (easy sew) in a pattern compatible with your wall color and other accessories. You can pick up fabric remnants at fabric stores.

I agree with Jan Loehr. She said as I would have. This really finishes the look, with expanding your room and windows.

I like the idea of the sheers, but another possibility is one of the rolls of translucent stuff that's like window clings. It comes in lots of patterns and sometimes colors, and can be removed later, if you want. They carry it at Lowe's, and on eBay. I have one that has bamboo patterns on it, and one that looks like raindrops all over the window.

You can replace the horizontal blinds with vertical in sharp colour

I ave long scarves across my windows and they look great. I've gotten many complements on them

I have sheers over some of my blinds, I have Drapes over another set, I have a scarf type valance over the dinning room window and changed to blinds to bottom up instead of top down so I can see the sky without seeing the "Yuck". I even have black out thermal curtains in one room. So as you can tell, there are a lot of easy and inexpensive to very costly and involved ways to cover your window.

Hi, how did you do the bottom up on the blinds? That is exactly what I would love to do. Instead of the cafe curtains.

Since you have artwork on the right, I would avoid panels. Like others have said, you could put a patterned valance. I would personally put a patterned roman shade (either a working one in lieu of the blind, or a stationary one, installed close to the ceiling, used as a valance)...I would end it, just below the metal blind valance. You window will look bigger and it won't impede with the blind mechanism.

Find a nice long piece of a sheer fabric, ( I found a great swirly white lace), swag drape it across the front on two end hooks and let flow to the bottom of sill.

Have you thought about privacy film & then you could decorate any way you liked. I'm tired of the blinds in my house & considering doing this. I went to Decorative Films on the net & found some really pretty ones or just the plain film. It's just an idea.

I covered my windows with privacy film to keep out the heat, sun rays, plus keep in the cool air; it is also warmer in winter now. I kept my blinds and close them also for warmth in winter. At the top, I bought long pieces of grape leaves which have texture and color features and I picked two that have clusters of berries in purple and red hues; (they are not grapes). They are attached above the window like a swag, using small nails and they round the edges and hang down at the sides of the window as well about 3". It looks very good and I have had many positive comments. The shades of green and red hues are very relaxing and complimentary to the kitchen/dining environment......like a bottle of wine and glasses would be! Love it! So visit a hobby store and look for long swags of grape leaves that seem very real and it might be the perfect touch. I also placed a swag of leaves lying on top of my tall antique dish cabinet but it does not hang over the edges. I placed some antique candlesticks, a few colored candles, and vases to add a few more pops of red and green hues. I added an Italian looking clock on the wall and it really looks nice to pull in the color and interest. My window looked just like yours until now. By my counter top in the kitchen I placed two colored wine glasses and bottle of wine.

I HATE blinds and I've hung opaque shower curtain liners that I cut to fit inside of the window frames with an adjustable rod. Now I have all the privacy I want with all the light I want. I used clear and color tape (that match my decor) to make a top hem for adjustable rod and to trim around the sides and bottom of curtains.
