This turned out beautifully. However, I have a really stupid question. I can see open shelving in a living room or fairly non-dusty places. How would you/do you keep the grease and other nasties off your shelves and the things on them? I love open shelving, but the prospect of all the kitchen grease and greasy fumes from range hoods, etc makes me hesitate about trying this in my kithcen.

I think that open shelving is great idea for nice visual kitchen pieces that are too pretty to hide away. It's useful art on display as those type of pieces are bulky and don't fit in a regular doored cabinet anyway. Good job!

I am planning to get rid of my china cabinet with hutch to make more space in my small apartment. Your idea is exactly what I am planning to do. Are the shelves store-bought or custom-made?
