We all have seen the trend of the barn door on pinterest….there are so many different styles and functions- but what I love about them is how open they can make a room feel all in one swoop. See that pic down below…awful, I know. This is the entry room to our sun room (don’t worry I have decorated and organized since this photo was taken- lol) but this will be the future play room when we have kiddos one day. With that said, we are in no rush for that journey- but I also want to continue to nest in a way that will last and have function for when we do come to that season of life. So my project? Install a barn door to make that room connected to the living room but not completely closed off.

I snagged these gorgeous doors from a garage sale for $10 each- score! What I love about the doors is the structure and the glass- it will only help to keep more light and bring an openness to the room.

I loved the look of the aged wood on the door but they were pretty hazardous with splinters, time to bust out the sander to get a nice finish that is still rustic

After sanding I buffed out the metal door kicks as well

After a quick trip to home depot I snagged the hardware for a barn door slider. My hubby helped with install and we simply followed the directions that came with hardware. Now you will notice one little detail here- but it’s intentional. I wanted people to be able to see the barn door when they walked into the living room, but that meant I had to install on the outer part of the doorway. Which then makes my barn door purely an aesthetic design choice, not really functional since there will always be a door open to the sun room now- but hey I am okay with that. This is the room with the doggie door anyways so it will always need a door open. All in all I am LOVING the look and loving the glass in the door- happy to jump on this trend!!

I live in a town house where there is no door at all or wood around the entrance way to the bath. Do you think this can be used for a door?

Was it not possible to put the other door on another track, in the other room, so you could use both doors, and close the door completely if desired? What happened to the brass handplates? I want to commend you for using Maas. I LOVE that stuff! It's the best.
