I am partial to futons myself-we use them in our den and as beds for overflow guests. Matresses vary in thickness and firmness as well as style.

I've never found any with a "bed" part that is worthy of sleeping on for an extended time...You might look into getting a memory foam "topper" ...
  • We purchased a high cost sofa bed for my sons apartment when he was living in Tempe. It was the most uncomfortable thing I ever slept on. To solve this the next day we purchased one of those self blowing up mattresses that fit the bed and put that on top of the sofa mattress. Slept like a baby that night. Whats nice is had we known, we would have spent a whole lot less on the sofa bed, still had a nice sofa, and the addition of the blow up mattress would still have worked fine.

None found yet. We bought one, with an upgraded Serta mattress, still has bar in your back. Ok if you sleep sideways on matress, instead of the normal way. Better off using the sofa bed to store the mattress, then put the mattress on the floor to sleep.
  • Emily, I would call Audry Bagley at the Westside Foundry. She has good furniture & knowledge. As we all know, most are not very comfortable, but I do know that some (for a little more money) are comfortable. Her phone number is 404-352-0072. I hope this helps.

Blow up mattress is your best bet!

I vote for the air mattress also. The ones with a special elevated pillow section are good for us reflux sufferers.

I don't remember the brand, but if you can afford it, really comfortable sleeper sofas do exist. Before I was married my flatmate and I got one second hand that had originally been bought at Harrods in London. The sofa upholstery was rather worn, but the sofa and the bed were both extremely comfortable. We tried the bed before my flatmate's mother came to visit, because if it wasn't so great she was going to give her mother her own bed. It was far more comfortable than our regular beds!
