How to Start Composting

Do you want to cut back on what you're sending to the landfill and help out your yard and garden at the same time? Then say hello to composting!
Not sure if composting is for you? Take one day to really pay attention to how many compostable items you put in the trash. This includes fruit and veggie scraps, egg shells, coffee grounds, tea bags, newspaper, and other dye-free papers (think Chinet plates). You may be surprised at all you're currently throwing away that doesn't have to be.
You can compost with a cylinder made of garden fencing, diy wooden compost bins, rotating bins (as pictured above) or stationary covered containers. The most important things to remember are ratios (you want both greens and browns in your bin), moisture, and air flow.
Once you start composting, you may be surprised by things you didn't know could be thrown in the pile. Check out the detailed instructions on how to get started composting on my site:

I agree with Valerie, brilliant post. The only things we don't put in our compost is onions and garlic, everything else goes straight back to the garden.
