My Bradford Pear tree

Somewhere I was told that this tree does not bear fruit....this is one of two that drops over 150 to 200 pears per season.......and it is a big PIA as the ants get to the fallen pears before I can clean them up

I'm not sure this is a Bradford Pear. How large do the 'pears' get? If they stay small (1" round) then it is a Bradford Pear. Are the flowers fishy smelling in the Spring? If so, it is a Bradford Pear. Otherwise you have another cultivar.

I agree with Marg. The pears on a Bradford pear should be tiny.

Speaking of...a friend gave us two bradford pears that had sprouted from his. They only get about two flowers each year and look horrible. Some never bloomed, but I have had to prune out the lower limbs each year as they limb prolifically. Should I just get rid of these?

I would, Melissa. One has only a limited space for trees in one's yard, and there are far better ones than the Bradford pear.

I have two regular pear trees that are driving me wild. Will probably cut them down since they never bear fruit. Have had the about 8 or 9 years. I pruned them heavily and now they have bunches of black leaves. My peach trees are laden with wonderful peaches. I wish I had never seen those pear trees.

Nancy, if you have two of the same type of pear tree you may have a pollination issue.
